The Making of PorchLight
Over the last year, I’ve shared my journey of becoming a homemaker. But somewhere along the way, I realized this journey was never really about homemaking.
It was about becoming a different kind of woman.
For years, I measured my life by achievement. I climbed the corporate ladder, chased the next milestone, and built a life around the goals I thought would finally make me feel fulfilled. When I left the career I’d spent years working toward to become a full-time homemaker, I believed I had finally found the answer.
But after the excitement of a new season settled, I realized I still wasn’t happy.
Changing my lifestyle didn’t automatically change me.
Fulfillment wasn’t waiting for me in a career, and it wasn’t waiting for me at home either. The title I held wasn’t the problem. The deeper question was who I was becoming.
Everything changed when I stopped asking, What kind of life do I want? and started asking, What kind of person do I want to become?
I realized I wanted to become someone whose life overflows with love. A woman who chooses character when no one is watching. Someone who lives with intention instead of simply reacting to life. Someone who notices people, welcomes them, serves them well, and leaves every place a little warmer than she found it.
The kind of woman who leaves the porch light on.
That simple picture quickly became something much bigger to me…it become an inspiration…a motivator to become the kind of woman I want to be.
To me, a porch light is a quiet invitation. It says, You’re welcome here. I was thinking of you. There’s always room for one more. It’s a picture of the kind of woman I hope to become. A woman whose character brings warmth wherever she goes. Who chooses kindness when it’s inconvenient, steadiness when life feels uncertain, and integrity when no one is watching.
I believe the world needs more women who live that way. That’s why I created PorchLight.
PorchLight is an invitation to cultivate a life rooted in love, character, and intention.
This began as my story, but my hope is that PorchLight becomes part of yours…a reminder that the most meaningful life isn’t built by chasing the next achievement, but by becoming the kind of person whose life brings light to others…the kind of woman who leaves the porch light on.
